When will I reach State Pension age?
People born from 6 October 1954 to 5 April 1960 reach State Pension age on their 66th birthday. For births from 6 April 1960 to 5 March 1961, the age rises one month at a time from 66 years and one month to 66 years and 11 months. People born from 6 March 1961 to 5 April 1977 reach it at 67.
The rise to age 68
Under the current legislated timetable, State Pension age rises from 67 to 68 between 2044 and 2046. People born from 6 April 1978 onwards reach it on their 68th birthday. The age 68 timetable can be changed after a future government review, but any change would require Parliament to approve new legislation.
State Pension age is not retirement age
You can stop working before or after State Pension age. Workplace and private pensions have their own access rules. State Pension is not paid automatically, so you normally need to claim it.
